BlackBerry App World now live!

RIM’s much anticipated BlackBerry App World is now live. Just head over to blackberry.com on your BlackBerry browser to download (Your device must have a trackball or touchscreen to be compatible).

Pricing on the apps are a little strange. After free apps the next cheapest apps start at $2.99 and go up from there. This could be because BlackBerrys are geared towards more “business” centric users and RIM expects them to have deeper pockets. Not good logic to me. You will also need a PayPal account if you want to buy the paid apps.

Now I know you iPhone fans are thinking that RIM just ripped of Apple’s iPhone App Store, and all the Crackberry addicts are saying that Apple did not invent the “Application Store” so they are not copying. Well no, Apple did not invent the first application center, so RIM isn’t technically biting Apple here. But in all seriousness, would RIM have ever thought of creating App World if Apple didn’t create App Store first? I think not.

Now that BlackBerry has application center (even with Shazam), will this topple the iPhone’s biggest selling point: the App Store? I don’t think that’ll be any time soon. Apple has great developer support that I don’t think BlackBerry will ever match.  Oh well, at leas I have a fart app on my BlackBerry now
